Hello once again! Today, as a wrap for the first week's inspirations for design, I thought I'd share two small personal pictures from my backyard. Why, you might ask? Well, sometimes the best design inspiration comes straight from the places that give you the most comfort or the best cognition! For me, design should be infinite; it's always changing, always evolving, and ever-so resilient. Some of my best student projects were thought up while I gazed upon my backyard pond, and when I'd stare at the heavens, watching the clouds create unique shapes. Now, before you think that I'm just lazy and watching the world, realize that to make good design sometimes you have to stay idle and simply observe. Whether it be watching what people buy, where their eyes are drawn to, what cars are driving around, color palettes in shops or "natural" palettes in the environment, and absolutely anything relevant to today's society, it never hurts to know what is liked! Be like the water and clouds: adaptive!
Until next week!

This was a unique idea. I never considered actual places (like a backyard) to be inspirational for design (then again my backyard is nothing but woods and I find it incredibly boring). However, I totally understand what you mean. I guess a good example for me would be the beach. When I go to the Outer Banks, I can't help but admire the beauty of it, and one of the things that I admire is the color palette; the color of the sky during the day and at sunset, the water and waves, the darker and lighter shades of sand, etc, etc. I suppose the phrase "stop and smell the roses" is good to apply to design now and again.
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful backyard, Evan! This is a great post. I definitely don't think day dreaming makes people lazy. I think that is the reason why a lot of the best artists and people with creative minds come off as "lazy" or way too "out there." They are constantly dreaming, imagining, and inventing. They draw inspiration from everything, everywhere they go. They observe. The hard part is to try to unleash everything that is constantly being absorbed and turning it into something tangible and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love photography! I think those pictures look awesome. I need to get a camera. I'll then have to go to a place with nice open sky to take good pictures lol.
